Description

The plan is to fly to Christchurch on the evening of Friday the 30th of Jan, and spend the next two weeks hiking round the mountains of the far south of NZ.

The plan is to walk the Rees Dart circuit in the first week, including side trips up to glaciers and to Cascade Saddle, for sweet as views of Mt Aspiring. That will take 6 or 7 days at a leisurely pace including time to sit out the worst of the rain to maximise views etc.

From there, possibilities include the Routeburn track with sidetrips to places such as North Col and the associated views over the Darrans, or heading over to Fiordland to do some daywalks and overnight trips to places such as Lake Adelaide and the Tutoko Valley; not to mention sea kayaking on Milford Sound.

The cost will be around $1500 including flights and all expenses over in NZ, but not including uber expensive touristy stuff such as bungy jumping and white water rafting.
