Buffalo Plateau Circuit - Snowshoeing

Dependent on cars having snow chains OR Parks Vic allowing vehicle access without snow chains (which is permitted when nil recent snowfall).

Plan:

* Meet at clubrooms at 1800hrs Friday night and drive to Lake Catani Campground.

* Hike to Rocky Creek Campground and snow camp.

* Return to Lake Catani Campground following day and drive back to Melbourne.

Prerequisites:

* Moderate level of fitness

* Experience of snow camping

* Intermediate bush skills (basic navigation, knowledge of hypothermia including risks, ability to establish camp etc.)

* $13.50 for camping fee at Rocky Creek Campground - payable at trip meeting (22/08)

Transport:

* 1 car guaranteed (5 people, or 4 if 2 cars, including driver)

* Additional car organised at trip meeting (4 people including driver)

Gear:

* Snowshoes

* Pack

* 4-seasons tent

* Groundsheet (Optional)

* Winter sleeping bag

* Sleeping mat (ideally 4-seasons, minimum 3-seasons)

* Stove + fuel (Optional - if you want hot scoff)

* Torch

* Hydration system (minimum 4L capacity)

* x2 breakfast, x2 lunch, x1 dinner + snacks

* Sunscreen

* Sunglasses (Optional)

* Toiletries (don't forget toilet paper!)

* Camera (Optional)

* Layering system (base - ideally thermal, mid & top)

* Dry routine (change of clothes)

* Warm hat & gloves
