Whitewater leadership starter course

Do you have a bit of paddling and whitewater experience and wish to learn more? Are you interested in one day becoming a whitewater leader in the club? We will have a limited number of spaces available at an in-house introductory whitewater leadership starter course that will be run in conjunction with ROC in February. 

More information will be sent out closer to the date, but here's a quick summary of what it will involve:

The intent of this course is to train attendees to be able to organise, assist leading, and guide rafts safely and competently on grade 2 rivers.

This course will teach you the skills required to organise groups paddling in whitewater, to guide rafts down grade 2 rivers, and basic safety and rescue techniques to ensure everyone on a trip stays safe. There will be an associated theory evening that you will have to attend, the details for which will be announced separately.

Note that in order to be a checked off leader in the club, you will also need to assist with organising/leading on club trips and attend further training courses - however, this weekend will serve as a good starting point.

To attend this course you will need to have some previous paddling experience, ideally at least 3 trips, including one in whitewater. Preference will be given to participants who have been on more club trips and have more experience.

This course is the first step in the whitewater leader progression system. After being checked off, you will be eligible to attend further training and go on more technically challenging trips.

Prepayment is partially required as we will probably be staying at a caravan park (yay for warm showers at the end of Saturday), and the remaining cost will be sorted at the end of the trip as per normal. It'll probably be about 30-35 for accommodation, and 35-70 for the trip depending on carpool etc.

**This training course will be dependant on the current COVID-19 situation/restrictions. Exactly what these are will be updated closer to the trip depending on conditions, but we thought it was better to get a date out.**
