This is an internal kayaking training course that will be run together with ROC. The intent of this course is to train attendees to be able to organise and assist leading on flatwater kayaking trips, and to teach basic kayaking skills as part of an intro to kayaking trip. This is one of the requirements on the pathway to get ticked off as a leader. Some previous kayaking experience is required.
We will cover a number of topics including basic kayaking skills such as understanding the equipment, wet exits, paddle strokes and how to teach them, and some simple self and assisted recovery techniques, and rescue techniques.
Please note attendance at the trip meeting is mandatory in order to fit your gear. Do come along even if you’re on the waitlist, as sometimes spots free up last minute.
There will be a theory session held on 30 January which you will need to attend in order to attend this practical component (or have equivalent knowledge, e.g. have attended one of these sessions previously). This will likely be held online and is posted as a separate event, details TBA.
If you have any queries then please get in touch.
Location: Lysterfield lake. Exact times TBC.
