What is OXO Weekend?

OXO Weekend is the largest trip of the year, and is designed for people new to the club to get an idea of what MUMC does, make some friends and have fun! We will be heading to the Cathedral Ranges to do some rock climbing, hiking, and social activities. Intro trip is open to all students wanting to venture into the outdoors - undergraduates and postgraduates alike.

Places are limited; this trip will accept approximately 50 participants.

What is going to happen?

On Friday night, we will all carpool up to the Cathedral Ranges, set up camp and wait for the latecomers to arrive. On Saturday morning, after breakfast, we'll split off into our groups based on your preference of activities and levels of experience!

What activities?

You'll have the choice of 3 activities from the following: bushwalking, rock climbing and social activities. After lunch, we'll swap activities, and when they're finished for the day, we'll all return to camp, have a dinner, and spend the night chatting around the fire and playing some fun games! Sunday gives you the chance to try the last activity, before we pack up camp and head home!

Costs and logistics

Intro trip will cost $180 per participant and covers gear rental, the campsite fee, petrol and car maintenance for the drivers, and all other bits and bobs that you need to have a nice camp. This price is comparable to, and even cheaper, than prices of commercial adventure companies around Melbourne, which offer similar experiences, but only of one activity and only for a day.

IMPORTANT: If you are on the "Going" list for the trip, please transfer $180 (including a non-refundable 50 dollar deposit) to the following bank account to secure your spot. If you have not made a payment by Tuesday 28th Feb you will be sent to the bottom of the waitlist.

NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED AFTER 8PM ON MARCH 12TH

Account Name: MUMC

BSB: 063238

Account Number: 10917618

Label the transaction as “Intro Trip - Your name”

What else will I need?

If you don't have a tent or a sleeping bag, you'll be able to rent one from the club, or share a tent with someone who does have one! It's really cheap, so don't let that stop you from signing up! When you've signed up, you will get a list of what you must bring. You will also need to cater your own breakfast, lunch and dinner within food groups. More information on this will be provided during the mandatory meeting on March 5th.

What if I've Climbed or Bushwalked Before?

If you have previous climbing experience, either outdoors or lead climbing in the gym and aren't crazy about top roping please contact: as there will be a Trad Climbing Trip running at the same location during the weekend.

If you have previous Bushwalking experience, please indicate in the signup form. There will be an intermediate bushwalking option during the weekend!

What do you do to come on the trip?

  1. Sign up: come to a club meeting, join the club as a member, enter the "Going" list for this trip and secure your spot by paying $160 (increasing to 180 on the 27th) to the bank account listed above.
  2. Attend the trip meeting on the 5th of March at 7:00pm at the MUMC clubrooms: this is compulsory, we'll sort out carpooling, gear hire and food groups. If you do not attend this meeting you will not be going on this trip.
  3. Ensure that you have an Australian phone number and a local emergency contact number listed.
  4. Respond to any emails sent out: we'll be sending out a medical form, this must be filled out before the trip meeting on the 7th of March!

If you have any questions, such as what each activity actually involves, please ask using the comments section below or come speak to Luke, Rhea, any of the leaders for this trip, as well as any of the other committee members.
