Hi all,
Get excited for a metrogaine!!!
The Twin Creeks 6hr Metrogaine starts from Darebin Park (close to Alphington Station) with the course area extending east to the Yarra River and the twin creeks: Darebin Creek and Merri Creek. This included most of Northcote, Thornbury, Farifield and Ivanhoe.
How does a metrogaine work?
- You may walk, run, or use public transport, cycling and scooters are not permitted
- The course uses question and multiple-choice answer checkpoints. The questions are intended to confirm your visit to the checkpoint and not test your IQ. Checkpoints are set on points of interest as much as possible. Find the location on the map then find the answer to the question matching a multiple-choice answer. Then mark off A, B, C or D on your answer sheet!
- There will be 3 or 4 wave starts, with teams expecting to score higher starting earlier if possible
- No Hash House and no catering (but there are plenty of cafés in the area)
You can find more info on timings etc. on the VRA website: https://rogainevic.org.au/august-metrogaine-16-august-2026/
Gear can be hired from the club, including gear for the rogaine itself and gear for camping. If you have team members in mind or are looking for people to team up with, come along to the meeting where we will be organising teams of 2 to 5 people. Everyone is welcome to join, whether it is your first time or your 100th!
We also have a chat on the Oxo Clubrooms just for rogaining, so you can always put any questions you have in there if you can’t find the information on the VRA page! Please also consider volunteering. It helps out the VRA who are volunteers and you get free entry into a future rogaine of your choice.
What is Rogaining?
Rogaining is the sport of distance cross-country navigation in which teams of two to five members visit as many checkpoints as possible in the specified time. It’s kind of a mix between trail running/hiking and orienteering (sort of like a scavenger hunt in the bush!). At our meeting I will explain the rules in more detail, and if you want to read more, see here: https://rogainevic.org.au/about/
