Join us for a solid training hike up Mt Donna Buang from Warburton!
Want to attend Midnight Ascent in August but haven't got the fitness? Want to go on multi-day hiking trips that look so fun but are labelled "advanced"?
This trip is aimed at beginner/intermediate hikers who want to unlock more of the club's bushwalking scene. Expect a long, sustained climb, a steady pace, and plenty of elevation gain. It will be physically challenging, but it's guaranteed you'll find it easier next time (we hope to run a few of these leading up to Midnight Ascent).
Trail: Mount Victoria Track on AllTrails
Distance: 15.4km | Elevation gain: 1108m | Est. duration: 5–6 hours
Track conditions: a formed track but with a steep, unrelenting climb through alpine ash forest, with some muddy and slippery sections. Possible snow and icy patches near the top.
Plan for the day:
7:55am — Meet outside clubrooms
Drive to Warburton
10:15am — Arrive, start the walk
~1pm — Summit, lunch, then descend the same path
Drive back
~6pm — Arrive back at clubrooms
What to bring:
Hiking boots or trail runners with good grip (no regular running shoes)
2L water
Lunch/snacks
Sunscreen
Warm fleece/puffer + warm base layer
Rain jacket
Headtorch
Trip meeting is essential for attending. Transport is car-pooling — expect $10–20 for petrol per person. I'll carry a PLB and first aid kit. Questions →
Don't forget to check your ambulance insurance
Cheers,
Jason
