Sea and touring kayaking
Sea and touring kayaking is the paddling equivalent of bushwalking - a fun, relaxed way of exploring Victoria's calmer inland waterways and coastal bays. It is an accessible kayaking activity that lends itself equally well to both local day trips and multiday adventures where we live out of the boats, camping at secluded campsites next to the water's edge.
Sea kayaks are long, specialised crafts with plenty of storage space for camping gear in separate compartments (bulkheads) situated in the bow and stern of the kayak. The club has both single (for one paddler) and larger, more stable tandem (for two paddlers) kayaks available for hire.
Trips are published on the Trips page and may range from an evening sunset paddle along the lower Yarra through Melbourne CBD, a day trip somewhere in Port Phillip Bay or Western Port, or a multiday camping trip to Gippsland Lakes, Wilsons Prom, the Murray, or the Glenelg River Canoe Trail. For more information, and prior to joining a sea/touring kayaking trip, please read the sea kayaking participant guidelines. To find out more about leading sea kayaking trips with MUMC, refer to the current leader guidelines or contact the paddling officer to enquire about the leader framework and training pathways.
