Requirements: Experience on overnight bushwalks, a moderate to high level of fitness and an appreciation for snow and mud!

The Overland Track is an extremely popular alpine walk in the heart of Tasmania. Spanining a minimum distance of 65km, it is often advertised as a physically demanding, six day trek through magnificent scenery in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage area.  This track offers a large number of side trips to various waterfalls, mountain peaks and historic huts.

For an added challenge, the plan is to complete this trek in winter (hopefully with patches of snow), the coldest and wettest time of the year, venturing off on many of the scenic and challenging side trips. Some side trips of interest may be; Cradle Mountain (1545m), Barn Bluff (1559m), Mt Ossa (1617m), Hartnett Falls and Pine Valley Hut.  At this stage the trip will most likely be 10 days including transport to and from the start of the hike.  The weather can be extremely changeable and the daylight hours will be shorter,  this means you must be a somewhat experienced bushwalker with a moderate to high level of fitness.

For the moment this is only a rough plan, with many more details to figure out.  While the trip meeting will occur as per usual, the Tuesday before the  trip, I expect the sign-ups will be finalised well before to ensure transportation and other details can be confirmed.

For more general information, a good place to start is the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service website.

If you have any questions, I will be around on Tuesday nights at the clubrooms, or you can leave a comment below.

NOTE:  Flights to Launceston return should be less than $250 return and transport to/from the hike will be around $80-90pp each way.

Online signup closed.
