Kayaking makes me poo myself, cycle touring makes me cry, hiking just sucks. If you too feel this way, I'd like to invite you to join me for an "unforgettable" summer.

1. Fly to Christchurch. Hitch/bus(/ride??!) to Nelson.

2. Build bike trailers. I don't know how to weld, maybe you do? Enjoy blissful ignorance.

3. Cycle down South to the West Coast via Murchison. Consider all the moments in your life that have brought you to this point. You have made some poor decisions; you might have made a great musician.

4. Arrive at the river. Transfer kayaks onto backs and put hiking shoes on, this will be a long walk. Realise why most people just pay for the heli.

5. Go kayaking! This will be sick, maybe take a clean pair of shorts though because those sieves look pretty sketchy.

6. Back on your bike, repeat steps 3-5 until injury, exhaustion or work deadlines give you an excuse to stop. There's still a long ride back to CHC and all roads cross mountain passes. Do we really enjoy this?

7. On the flight home, vow never to do this again. Ignore the little voice in your head that's already designing a better kayak trailer for next summer.

Human-powered adventures are the real deal, you won't be coming home feeling short-changed. Maybe we could use this to fundraise for an environmental cause, but at the very least it will be an opportunity to think about the impact of how we get to the wild places we love and want to protect.

I'll be in Canada and Peru until August, but send me a message on facebook if you're stoked.
