Planning to head up to the stunning high country to explore the Fainters area "before the snow arrives".

Plans fairly flexible at this stage but likely drive up friday night and camp at either Pretty Valley Pondage, or walk 4km under the starlight to Tawonga Huts (it will be close to the new moon so headtorches will be needed).

Spend Saturday walking North towards the Fainter peaks, bagging a few peaks along the way (Mt Jaithmathang, Mt Fainter North and South), before finding a good spot to set up camp for the night. If the weather is sunny we should have spectacular views of the alpine region, including Mt Feathertop and the high plains.

Likely return via the same route on Sunday. Possibility of visiting Mt Jim and some of the other high country huts in the area, or walk out to Bogong Village if we've set up a car shuffle on Friday night.

Beginners welcome - I haven't walked this route before but I expect it to be beginner friendly and a good introduction to overnight hiking and camping. Note, reasonable fitness is still required as you will be walking for most of the day carrying 12-15kg and there are some steep sections. This walk is semi-remote and there will be no toilets, huts or mobile reception after Saturday morning.

Group size dependent on cars available but will limit to 12 maximum.
