Lets do a snow safety workshop!
We'll be talking about and discussing a few safety aspects of snow sports and looking at a case study or two(these will be May's monthly case studies).
I encourage everyone that wants to go on snow trips this year to come. If you have never skied before, this is a great opportunity to start learning about snow safety. If you are an experienced skier, this will be good for refreshing and sharing your knowledge and to participate in the discussion.
Some points I want to discuss/look at is:
- Typical overall risks of snow sports, including fall/collision injuries and weather exposure.
- Hypothermia; symptoms and how to prevent it.
- Avalanche Awareness (not a big risk in Australia, but worth learning about).
We have a few books in the mumc library on skiing and avalanche safety, I recommend checking these out. Have a chat with me or someone else who seem like they know what they're doing if you want tips and ideas on where to start.
Bring all your thoughts, questions and knowledge and join in to learn something new and/or enjoy a good conversation about snow saftey.
