Pool Rolling

We will be meeting at the clubrooms at 7:30 am. 

Come learn to roll a kayak. We will be going to the pool and having a break in between to watch videos. Time depends on pool availability. The number of spots depends on cars and drivers. 

This session will be a small session to ensure we can optimise good training. You don't have to know how to roll yet. The only prerequisite is that you are able to swim. And preferably interested in the sport :)

You will have to have watched the first 30 minutes of this video about the sweep roll BEFORE the trip to get a basic understanding of the principles:

If you don't know how to roll yet and show up and haven't watched it we won't take you to the pool. 

We will also discuss some rolling footage from our NZ pool sessions in the club rooms beforehand to demonstrate some common mistakes, then head to the pool and practise, finishing off with videoing each other and getting some feedback in between. We will then head back to MUMC and clean our gear.  Afterwards, we will sit together and discuss our rolls over a cup of tea. 

We have tried the videoing in the past and found that people just run off after the pool session. This is not the aim! From experience, the videoing is very useful for better understanding what you are doing right and wrong.

 A good roll makes your and your trip leader's life a lot easier!
