SPRATS - Expression of Interest

Feel like exploring some remote areas of Tasmania's coastline while also giving something back? SPRATS is an incredible conservation effort that takes place every January around the coastline of Tasmania's wild southern corner. Each year they recruit self sufficient bushwalkers who are comfortable with remote navigation to help remove weeds from these pristine beaches. Volunteers are allocated a stretch of coast to walk along and look for any weed infestations to be sprayed or weeded. This is a fantastic way to see some untouched coastlines and to contribute to an effort which has all but eradicated a devestating weed from these ecosystems. 

The stretches of coast differ in difficulty and remoteness. If you're less experienced there are some easier sections that are less remote, and require less strenuous walking. But if you're keen for some adventure, you could be dropped off by helicopter to a rocky and rugged corner, requiring you to navigate to remote coves in track free areas. This year they're also looking for competent sea kayakers to access some remoter beaches.

Anyway, enough ranting. Here's the important info if you'd like to be part of this...

• Expression of interest close on October 16th. You need to submit an application with a description of your ability and preferred section.
• The event takes place on various days between Jan 8th - Jan 30th 2018. You'll be allocated a period of 6-22 days depending on which stretch of coast you're weeding.
• You need to be a confident and self sufficient bushwalker.
