Hey guys!

I refuse to give up on this trip!

I've copied the plan from the previous hike onto here, since the plan hasn't really changed.  Like, again. Times are subject to change.

So after looking through a fair few hikes, I've finally landed on a trip! It's called "Walk into History" and it looks to be a stellar overnight hike! The entire walk is forested and as we'll walk, we'll see some remnants from the early logging operations in the area.

So the basic idea is that we leave at night on Friday (around 8:30) and arrive at our parking spot near Big Pat's Rec Area. We'll arrive around 10pm. Then, we'll do a car shuffle and park the 2nd car at Powelltown Picnic Area. This would take about an hour. After that, we make a short walk to the Rec area and here we can pitch our tents and sleep.

The next day, we aim to get to Ada No. 1 Mill Site camp ground, about 16km away. It should take us around 5.5 hours to walk there, and I aim to get there by at least 4pm (so we have plenty of sunlight if something happens along the way). Which means we have to leave 10:30am. If we have some time, we hike up to the New Ada Mill Site. The guide book says this is a historic site, so don't be deceived by the name!

The next day, we complete our hike! We set off to Powelltown picnic area, which will take about 5 hours. If we get going by around 10am, we'll arrive at the park by around 3pm! A bit early...

Instead, we can take a little detour and go along Reids Tramline Walk, a 6km walk which should take a couple hours at most, so maybe we can start walking by 9am if we want to do this.

Then, we get the car at Big Pat's back over to Powelltown, which might take an hour. Then we head back home, reaching Melbourne arriving by around 6pm to 7pm.

This walk is very beginner friendly, since we have a lot of daylight to spare! Even if you can't keep the 3km/hr pace, it's fine! The only real limitation here is that you need to be able to walk.

In terms of gear/food/tents, we should be able to hash out everything on the night, in terms of gear you need. Just make sure to bring around $40 on the night for the deposit ($20) and gear hire costs.

Oh, you will need proper hiking boots or trailer runners that are worn in, which we don't hire out, so make sure you sort that out! The track will be quite wet and steep at points, so I don't to risk someone falling and twisting their ankle.

If you have any questions, feel free to send me an email: or find me in the clubrooms on Tuesdays. Or feel free to message me on facebook, if that's easier.
