The labour day long weekend is traditionally a weekend to walk to MUMC Hut (See the MUMC Hut tab under "About Us") on Mt Feathertop and undertake some maintenance tasks (Nothing Strenuous I promise, and you’re also welcome to come for a great weekend hike and not do any maintenance). This trip is open to anyone who wants to try out over night hiking. We will drive up Friday night after uni/work and there will be options to return Sunday night as the Monday is not a university holiday or return Monday for those who have it off.

MUMC hut was built on Mt Feathertop in 1966, they hiked in everything to build it, luckily now we're only hiking in maintenance materials. There are two walks we can chose from, both good for first hikes, one up Bungalow Spur from Harrietville, a gentle but consistent up hill or undulating along the razorback from Mt Hotham, one of the best walks in Victoria. Both are suitable for members new to hiking and most of the required gear can be hired from the club (sleeping bag, stove etc.) you will need warm clothes (the mountains can be cold even in February and March) and good walking shoes (Sneakers in good condition are ok for these walks but not ideal).

At the hut there will be ample opportunity for some R+R and to summit Mt Feathertop. I will update with maintenance work later or discuss at the trip meeting. For those new to the club please note the Tuesday meeting before this trip is compulsory to attend to organise logistics gear etc.
