What is a Metrogaine?

A spin off of a Rogaine, a Metrogaine is where teams of up to 5 people hunt for locations in urban environments. Teams go together and get to as many points as they can, in whatever order they want, and return before a set finishing time. Points are given for each location found, with more points given to locations that are further away from the start point. These events are organised by the Victorian Rogaining Association (VRA), and often see a number of teams from MUMC participating. Top finishers of several categories all receive delicious prizes to make up for effectively doing an Easter egg hunt without Easter eggs!

Location

Williamstown. Melbourne’s inner West and Bayside Coast including large areas of coastal parkland and some of the Federation trail.

Course

The course uses question and multiple choice answer checkpoints. The questions are intended to confirm your visit to the checkpoint and not test your IQ. Many checkpoints are at points of historical interest. The course is a mixture of coastal wet lands, local creeks and rivers, and the café culture of Williamstown. All of the course, except the lower part of Kororoit Creek, is suitable for road bikes. Hybrid bikes are recommended for this lower section. Some scenic and heavily trafficked areas of the course, will be have additional checkpoints for the walkers only.

The course has been set to provide multiple safe options for crossing of the Westgate freeway and rail lines. The hash house will be located only a few hundred metres from Williamstown Beach railway station.
