Feathertop or Bogong Skiing

The date for this trip is highly subject to change. We will be waiting for good spring skiing conditions, and for the summit cornice to erode to allow access to the South-East faces.

Mt Feathertop is a beautiful mountain. My last ski trip of the season last year was at Mt Feathertop in Spring, and it was the perfect venue. In Spring, if you are fit, it is possible to clock up many vertical meters of skiing by skiing down the chutes and gullies, and scrambling up the ridge lines between them which are free of snow.

Plan is to walk up Bungalow Spur and camp at Federation Hut, dump our overnight gear and go skiing around the Summit area and Little Feathertop, then walk back down on Sunday afternoon for the drive back to Melbourne.

I've currently got the skill level as Advanced. You don't need to be able to ski with an overnight backpack, but you will need to be confident travelling down black runs executing parallel or telemark turns. This is an independent level trip, you need to be capable of looking after yourself and making decisions in all conditions, I won't be looking after you, but depending on who else wants to come and help lead, there is scope for people who are new to MUMC but are confident skiers. 

We may also decide to go to Bogong instead.
