First meeting to talk about hut plans, email me if you're interested! Everyone welcome, the more the merrier. Come to the normal Tuesday meeting and we'll decide where we want to meet, either in the club or at the pub. My email is

Please see email below:

Hi OXOs,

Our hut needs some love and I hope you might be interested in helping out!

For those who don't know me, I've been in MUMC since 2015 and have been pretty involved in the club since, acting as paddling officer in 2015-16 and currently as vice-president. I've recently spent a fair amount of time in volunteer-maintained huts in Canada and came back inspired to reinvigorate plans to fix up our own hut. Last week the committee approved my nomination to be the MUMC Hut Warden.

For the moment, my idea is to form a small working group to meet up and bash heads together to come up with a plan. I imagine there will also be some people bashing heads remotely, since we've got a lot of experience in members who have since left Melbourne.

As well as design ideas, we'd eventually need to flesh out a couple of areas, such as:
- Project timeline
- Funding sources
- Transport of people and materials
- Food and sleeping logistics during construction
- Negotiations between MUMC, MUS and Parks
- Training and OH&S for volunteers

This means that the group will need a broad range of experience to help us get things going, so I'm sure anyone interested in helping will find a task they can help with. Eventually we would want to delegate these different tasks out as we move forwards.

I'd suggest meeting after the Tuesday night meetings on the second Tuesday of the month, so first meeting would be Tuesday 8 May, 7.45pm. We can decide whether this happens at the club or in a corner of the pub. We can start with that and see how we go.

So, if you're interested in being involved in a potential project with the hut, have an opinion about what direction we should be taking, or just want to stay in the loop, please send me an email so I can add you to a mailing list. Please forward this email to anyone you think might be interested or have some valuable experience.

To get the conversation started, I've made an example of a rough timeline that we could aspire to. Obviously this will change as we develop ideas.
