Hey guys, I’m really keen to go for a walk these holidays to see the Crosscut, even if it will be pretty chilly. Road closures can make accessing the wilderness behind Mt Buller a bit tough so it might have to be an in-out trip rather than a circuit, but the landmarks around there are so good that they’re worth seeing twice anyway!

The plan is to go from Refrigerator Gap over the Bluff to Lovicks Hut, then from Lovicks to Macalister Springs (and its amazing hut with views of the Crosscut) before retracing our steps to the cars over the next two days.

It’s a little remote and it is winter, so some experience of overnight hiking is almost certainly required. That said, despite passing a mountain or two we will sort of be keeping our height and the days won’t be longer than 12kms. Plus, we will be camping beside either the cars or a hut each night to keep it even safer. So, if you’re keen to get out in the mountains but don’t have much experience this is a great opportunity to do it.

We don’t mind a little bit of snow, but if it’s really dumping down then we may have to change the plan closer to the date. But for now, get onboard!

(We'll confirm the meeting time a bit closer to the date when we have a better gauge of the conditions but feel free to contact me at any time though here or Facebook)
