Standard: Everyone welcome

Hi everyone, this is a post for a social meetup on the beach in St Kilda. We won't be sunbathing, we won't be swimming, we will be practising our avalanche beacon search and rescue skills in the sand (where we can bury beacons for practice).

With Winter coming up soon, now is a good time to break out the beacons, probes and shovels, practice our technique, and get everything dialled in ready for when the snow arrives.

There is a public Facebook event here you can sign up to: https://www.facebook.com/events/188728018615518/

Anyone is welcome to come. If you've got your own beacon, fantastic! Bring it along. If you don't there may be an opportunity to borrow someone else's at the event, and there should be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and learn what it's all about.

If you've got friends who want to come too, feel free to invite them along.

What to bring (if you have):

Avalanche Beacon, Avalanche Probe, Snow Shovel, Head Torch

Disclaimer: None of us are professionals, and while some of us have done an avalanche course and read some books, this doesn't qualify us to give you reliable advice. Before heading into the back-country with this equipment, please strongly consider taking a course run by a professional avalanche safety instructor.

Location: West Beach Bathers Pavilion, A/330 Beaconsfield Parade, St Kilda West VIC 3182
