If you're interested in developing skills in track maintenance, going for walks in the scrub, drinking pina coladas* and feeling super satisfied for doing something beneficial for other hikers, then this trip is your match.

As usual with conservation trips, this has been organised by a group outside of MUMC (In this case BTAC). Therefore we will have a trip meeting to organise cars and to clarify details, but there will not be a specific trip leader. See below for more info:

Following is the email from Bushwalking Tracks and Conservation:

This is a BTAC activity. We will be working as volunteers to DELWP to do maintenance work on the northern part of Track 96 from Budgee Track to Lee Creek Picnic Area.

Track 96 existed during the late 1800s and early 1900s to service the needs of gold miners, connecting Briagolong and Gladstone Creek to the goldfields at Lees Creek and Granite Creek. It was retraced and cleared as a walking track during the 1990s.

Friday will be a getting there and setting-up camp day. We will commence maintenance work at 9 am on Saturday. On Sunday we will finish by 2pm.

Work will involve brush cutting, chainsaw operation, erecting markers and the use of hand tools for vegetation trimming and clean up. No previous track maintenance experience is required.

We will car camp at the Lloyd Knob camping area on the Freestone Creek Road 22km north of Briagolong. The camping area is adjacent to a 2WD gravel road thus readily accessible by any vehicles. A BBQ meal will be provided on Saturday evening. Participants will need to be self-sufficient for camping and all other meals. They will need to carry lunch, water, and snacks on the maintenance days. BTAC and DELWP will provide all tools and PPE for the maintenance works.

*pina colada drinking discouraged
