Tentatively thinking of doing a pretty hardy alpine ridge-walk in preparation for a slightly larger one I'm going to do soon. I did a day of this 4 day circuit a few years ago as a keen teen doing it as a day walk. Was definitely worth it. For anyone not in the know, the area that is walked is where the author of "Tommorow when the war began" drew his inspiration for "The Devils Staircase" and "Hell". 

The hike involves a lot of boulder scrambling, even more hill climbing, a bit of getting lost and not very much water. Hence, I'm restricting it to independent or close to independent hikers who know what they're doing. If you don't know where you stand, talk to me. It's restricted to 4 people at the moment as that is the amount of people I'm able to take with me in the ute.
