EDIT [29/01]: With the weather forecast Alex Hormann is going to lead the trip; I'm too vulnerable to the heat.

Alex: The plan is to go to the 1000 steps in the Dandenong Ranges. I think it'll be shadier in this forecasted heat than the Organ Pipes to the west. We can talk about transported options tonight (29/01) at the clubrooms but I'm pretty keen for public transport. Upper Ferntree Gully trainstation is just 500m from the start of the hike. Public transport is just so much more of a greener transport option. If you plan on joining me and don't have a myki, get one. I propose meeting at Melbourne Central station at 9:15am on Sunday for those also keen for pt. It will be at the swanston-street myki gates outside the Coles. If you've never hiked before, that's perfectly fine, this is basically a stroll through the park and is attempted at least once by nearly every Melbournian in their lifetime (it's a classic!!). It's a 4.7km return hike so should take no longer than 3 hours max. Running shoes and fitness clothing is fine, no real need for hiking boots. I will implore though you bring at least 1.5L of water with you as it's such a hot day and you will be climbing at least 1000 steps. Sunscreen and hat is also pretty good if you don't wanna get burnt in the Australian sun. A comfortable backpack for lunch, water and maybe a sweat towel/change of clothes is also fine. No need for a huge multi-day hike pack. Hopefully I will see all of y'all tonight at the non-compulsory pre-trip meeting! The meeting was not compulsory. -- Alex

Also you're cool to bring friends but not dogs.

I'm thinking of organising a cruisy day walk to either the Dangdenong ranges (1000 steps) or Organ Pipes, both are fairly accessible with public transport (I don't have a car).

The walk is beginner friendly, just want you to bring good walking boots, 2L water and lunch.

More details when the date gets closer. For now just a disclosure that when the weather is looking like 27C it will be a very early start (I have no heat resistance).
