The plan is to stay at Diamantina hut on Friday night. Then hike the Machinery Spur Track to the Kiewa River West Branch and then up to Mt Feathertop via Diamantina spur, probably stay at the legendary MUMC Hut on the Northwest spur on Saturday. Followed by a cruisy hike back across the Razorback to Diamantina hut.
Saturday = 24km total distance
- Descending 1,097 m (most over 10km)
- Ascending 999 m (over 4km)
Sunday = 11km total distance
- Descending 374 m
- Ascending 276 m
The hike is rated as a grade 4 (out of 5), and requires a good level of fitness. We'll be starting early (8am) on Saturday to allow us plenty of time to get down to the Kiewa River and back up the East flank of the Razorback ridge.
As we will be descending into and back out of a valley, if you're prone to knee or ankle injuries I would recommend this trip isn't for you.
