Hi guys, an exciting opportunity!

In order to help people learn about how to minimise risks while on whitewater trips, and to cover the theory required for the next group of leaders training (separate trip on 14-16th February) Michael Clark will be running a theory night on whitewater, starting from 7.30 pm in MUMC club rooms.

Please note that this will pretty much be exclusively theory. If you want to learn about the practical usage of these skills then sign up to the leader training course on the following weekend.

Some of the things that we will be covering are:

- Swiftwater hydrology basics

- Hazard identification

- Risk assessment and group decision-making

- Low to high risk rescue options

- Personal and rescue equipment

- Whitewater swimming techniques and self-rescue

- Shallow-water crossings

- River knots

- Throwbag practice

- Mechanical advantage systems

We also might get to cover:

- Contact rescues

- Strainer simulations

- River access techniques

- Kayak self-rescue and partner rescue

Come along, bring a friend. This evening is open to people from any of the uni clubs that do whitewater. Depending on how things go we may want to consider ordering food in - if so then please bring some cash to pay for it.

If you have any queries then feel free to contact me via email () or phone 0423532036.
