Killa-Warby Rogaine

45th VICTORIAN 24HR ROGAINING CHAMPIONSHIP AND 6 HR NON CHAMPIONSHIP ROGAINE

24hr Championship Rogaine noon Saturday to noon Sunday

6hr Rogaine Noon to 6 pm Saturday

The 24hr event is the 17th Nigel Aylott Memorial Rogaine and 44rd Victorian Rogaining Championship.

Thank you Rob and Graham for volunteering to Organise and Set this event.

What is special about this event

The 2019 Nigel Aylott Memorial Victorian Rogaining Championships and an accompanying six-hour event will be held in the Killawarra Forest and Warby Ranges near Wangaratta on Oct 12 and 13. Nigel Aylott was a world championship winner victorian Rogainer, Victorian Committee member for 15 years and dedicated volunteer. Nigel died in a an adventure racing accident in North America in 2004 age 38.

Competitors will be presented with a variety of rogaining challenges. There are strong contours, and some steep terrain, on the boundaries of the Warby Ranges in both the east and west. On the other hand, competitors will also need to be able to navigate to checkpoints in the more subtle country of the Killawarra Forest and the central part of the Warby Plateau. The country is mostly open, with good visibility and occasional thicker patches of scrub. There is flowing water in a number of the creeks and competitors can expect to be walking through a beautiful carpet of spring flowers throughout.

The Hash-House will be at the southern end of the flatter Killawarra Forest and six hour competitors will have the option of spending the majority of their time in this less hilly northern section. On the other hand, they will also have the option of visiting the beautiful northern section of the Warbys. Competitive twenty-four hour teams will have no option but to travel further south in the Warbys, where there will be an all-night café to provide sustanence.

VRA Bus

We will again offer a bus to and from the 24hr event subject to numbers. The bus will depart Southern Cross Station Saturday with a plan to issue maps on the bus from 9am. or we will catch the 7:05 Train to Bendigo and take a bus trip out to the HH site. The bus will return to Southern Cross Station departing the Hash House about 1pm. If we can plan to meet a timely train leaving Bendigo the train is again a good option. Please indicate your interest by emailing Phil on before Late date of 30-Sep.

Accommodation

Bush camping is expected to be available at the Hash House site from Friday evening to late Sunday afternoon.

Biosecurity in Rogaining

Special course conditions apply: PLEASE WASH/CLEAN THE SOLES OF YOUR BOOTS and YOUR GAITERS (paying special attention to seeds that may be hidden in the velcro) before you leave home. This event is being held on land that includes farmland. The VRA committee takes our reponsibility not to bring seeds and other pathogens onto this land very seriously. Treat your equipment if you were presenting at the Customs inspection counter returning from New Zealand. If rogainers bring dirty gear to this event the organisers will direct you to clean it before you start.

As Rogainers and outdoor people we visit different forests and farmland. It is important we understand the need for Biosecurity and what action we need to take to mitigate the risk of spreading weeds or disease. Please read our Biosecurity in Rogaining information.
