Leaders: Emma F, Callum E
Standard: Intermediate
Meeting: Tue, 5 May 2020, 7:00 pm

The Grand Strzelecki Track is a 38km point to point trail which links up the Morwell and Tarra Bulga National Parks in the Strzelecki Ranges in Gippsland. Think waterfalls, streams, lush fern forest and mountain ash. Also, there’s a pretty groovy suspension bridge on the trail.

The first day will involve a car shuffle in the morning, followed by a 14 km walk, hiking from Morwell National Park (at the Junction Road carpark) along Billy’s Creek to Jumbuk camping area. The second day will be a 24km day from the Jumbuk camping area through to the Tarra Bulga Visitor Centre at Balook. We will finish up with a short side trip to Corrigan’s suspension bridge (an easy 20 minute walk from Balook), then reshuffle the cars and head home!

Putting this trip down as a solid ‘Intermediate’ - the trail has a few decent hills, a fairly long second day, and there will potentially be quite a few creek crossings to navigate (rain dependent). The walk is fairly new, and the trail is maintained largely by volunteers, so best to come prepared with good fitness, some basic navigation skills and a spirit of adventure! Previous overnight hiking experience is essential.

The trail is about two and a half hours southeast of Melbourne, so fuel costs should be fairly low. Campsite is free!
