Distance: 250-260km

Number of Days: 8 to 10 including possible rest day

What is this trip?

In the South-West corner of Victoria, there is a 250km+ circuit hike that is gaining popularity.

Starting and finishing in either Portland or Nelson, this trail is marketed as a 12 to 14 day journey through forest, around lakes, over sea cliffs and along remote stretches of beach.

“The Great South West Walk is an epic showcase of the natural beauty of far west Victoria.” – Parks Victoria

This hike certainly seems to have a lot to offer and is one in a region of Victoria I personally haven’t visited in a while. Being a long way (350km) from Melbourne and a multi-day effort, I figure it could make for a great trip to share with others.

The plan is to complete the circuit beginning on Good Friday, 2nd April 2021, walking in an anti-clockwise direction within 8 to 10 days weather permitting.

This is a hike for people who can walk long distances for multiple days in a row. It is highly likely there will be sections (or days) where you may be walking by yourself, as a result you must be self-sufficient and able to hike completely independently.

This plan is subject to change, depending on level of interest and people’s abilities.

However due to the necessity of booking campsites, there will be a cut-off for new sign ups two-weeks prior, on 16th March 2021.
