Standard: Everyone welcome
Meeting: Tue, 20 Apr 2021, 7:00 pm
We will be running a small group pool session where you can learn the basics of kayaking (or work on other technical skills, e.g bracing or rolling) in a controlled, clean (and warm!) environment. Depending on your experience, we can cover the basic gear, fitting of kayaks and spraydecks, basic strokes and support/brace strokes, wet exits and self-rescue techniques. There is also the possibility to learn/practice rolling if you already have a bit of experience and feel ready to give this a go.
This is number two out of three sessions so there is a possibility of getting progressive practice, including building up to hand and/or paddle rolls. This is an excellent opportunity to prepare you for paddling in any kind of closed kayak - be it whitewater, flatwater or canoe polo. These skills are a prerequisite to join in on actual whitewater kayaking trips.
Venue: Victoria University pool; 40 Maribyrnong Blvd, Footscray VIC 3011.
Time: The pool booking is from 7.30 - 8.45 pm; we will meet outside the pool at 6:45 to cover the basics and fit kayaks before entering the pool.
Cost - $25 per person for pool/gear hire and small group/one on one coaching.
As this is a partially externally run session and due to the pool booking/small group coaching, please only sign up if you are committed to attending. If your availability suddenly changes, please ensure you take yourself off the list as early as possible to allow someone else to take your space.
If you haven't already done so, please also make sure that you complete our short (six multiple-choice questions) paddling experience and interest survey to help us plan future trips: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScZ2unmgZs-HYeWLM6T7PjJNTqvw9894K2kEhD3yAWVroWJkw/viewform?fbclid=IwAR1DLVF0_FJa2dogLKxiZ64msNJt_lzV9MRcekYR5YMYCtMsSIJoARujJkM
