Midnight Ascent 2021

SAVE THE DATE!

For new players- Midnight Ascent is the annual club trip to our snow-surrounded MUMC hut at Mt Feathertop, where the 4-7hr uphill walk begins at midnight on Friday and all sanity is left at the carpark. Think fancy dress in the snow, think three-course meal from scratch, think some classic adventuring with all your mates.

The full moon falls toward the end of August this year, and the trip will run on the 20th-22nd August. More details to come. Sign-ups will open on the morning of the 27th July (delayed from original date- apologies friends).

Firstly a few key requirements of participation:

- You must have a demonstrated ability to be prepared for, and hike in wet conditions and very cold temperatures (e.g. in the snow). 

- You must have been on at least two club trips to sign up (so if you are a new member that is keen to come, make sure you get out on a couple of trips before then!).

- You must bring a costume that fits the theme of the event.

Please note, this year participants must be prepared to snow camp- the mezzanine of the hut needs a bit of maintenance, so we will be limited on numbers that can sleep in the hut. Please keep this in mind when signing up.

Theme............MUMC OLYMPICS

Much like the long awaited Tokyo Olympics, OXOs across the country have been watching, hoping, praying, training (?) for our beloved Midnight Ascent. Like the olympics, it will take grit, determination, teamwork and courage. 

Maybe you will dress as your favourite athlete (summer or winter), your favourite olympic moment in history, an olympic official, or a keen supporter from your country of choice. Get as creative as possible!! Remember you don't have to be a person....

There will be medals, there will be commentary, there will be a podium finish for the cook off. 

Additional note: The trip running on this date is conditional on Victorian COVID restrictions. Currently our trip numbers are tied to the indoor house gathering restrictions- if restrictions don't allow the numbers we will postpone and run at a later date. Severe weather may also see the need to postpone or alter the trip. Fingers crossed xx
