Hey Guys/Girls,

For those that are interested, I will be running a trip to walk the entire Australia Alps Walking Track (AAWT) in multiple stages, it is 650kms (403Miles), it runs from Walhalla to Canberra.

This is going to be a Legen...dary walk, I plan to split it up into multiple short trips so I don't have to take 2 months off work. The entire trip can take anywhere from 30 to 50 days depending on weather. I have yet to work out the exact short trips, but I am thinking because of the driving time will slowly increase the further we get out of Melbourne, we should keep the trips short while in Victoria then progressively increase the time away as we get further away. For example: First few hundred kilometers of walking will be done over a few weekends with a long weekend here an there. Then as we approach the end of the full walk, we increase the time away, up to a week or so at a time. Possibly completing the end of it over Uni holidays so more people can attend.

A little about the track, as stated earlier, the track runs from Walhalla (about 2 hours out of the city) through to Canberra, which is about 7 hours drive away from Melbourne. All the information you will need can be found on John Chapman's website: http://www.john.chapman.name/vic-alpt.html but to steal a few important bits:
- Total Ascent and Descent is 27,000 Metres.
- 6-8 hours walking per day
- Limited facilities (baby wipes anyone?)

Important Notes:
- I encourage everyone to join in on the fun, but urge people to assess their experience/fitness level. Especially towards the end of the trip as the time out will be longer.
- Gear, the club has all the gear you may want aside from a few bits and pieces such as Boots/Clothing/Underwear. I strongly urge to take only what you can carry, especially towards the end of the trip.
- I would prefer to go in a minimum of 2 cars, so we can car shuffle or have cars at each end, walk towards each other and swap keys on the way past.

I am hoping to have the first stage/phase a few weekends after Easter, which will most likely be Walhalla to St Gwinear (only a weekend and about 33Km)

Luke.

P.S Found another good site: http://jevans.pcug.org.au/Pages/KC/KCAAWT.html (We are probably going to be following this sites suggested itinerary)
