I have long wanted to explore this infamous and remote section of the prom, and thought the Labor Day weekend would be the perfect opportunity!

The hike is a grade 5 hike through remote wilderness. The track involves off-track navigation, river crossings, swamp crossing and bush bashing. Water can be unreliable and scarce. This trip is therefore strictly for advanced hikers only. Participants will need to be highly competent in navigation, able to be fully self-sufficient, and very experienced hikers. Parks Vic limits group sizes in the Northern Prom to 6, so this will be a small group expedition.

I'm still sussing out the details and route options, but a tentative plan is:

Friday Night (6km)
- hike from trailhead at Five Mile Road Carpark to Barry Creek Campground, stay the night

Saturday (18km)
- hike to Tin Mine Cove Campsite
- this section involves off track nav, and traversing a swamp that can be up to 1m deep

Sunday (18km)
- hike to Five Mile Beach Campsite
- this section involves hard to follow trails, rock scrambling and potential tidal crossings

Monday (18km)
- hike back to cars at Five Mile Road Carpark
- this is a fairly straightforward day on a vehicle track

Any questions let either Callum or I (Emma) know!

Also would advise coming to the trip meeting even if you are on the waitlist as I tend to find people drop out last minute.
