Cobberas Wilderness

Does climbing above the treeline on remote peaks sound like your sort of adventure? This might be the place to go. Tucked in the middle of the Australian Alps, the Cobberas wilderness has a string of untracked rocky peaks lifting above the surrounding rolling hills.

General plan is to walk in on the Friday evening and spend Saturday on a traverse above the treeline, dropping back down into shelter to camp. Days of 15-20km may not sound difficult but the untracked, steep, loose, and rocky terrain require sure footing and careful walking.

Unlike the Victorian Alps, this wilderness region sees few visitors and has little to no infrastructure. Likely freezing overnight temperatures and a remote chance of snow, the trip is only open to people with prior bushwalking experience who have the necessary clothing and equipment. Rewards for all the effort will hopefully include vast vistas, and a sense of solitude.

3rd time attempting this trip having lacked participants and then being flooded out! Transport costs are likely to be around $80.
