Snow has arrived in quantity, with lower elevations likely to have coverage not seen for decades. This trip will follow the western side of the closed Tooma Road up through the diverse layered alpine environment. Starting in rainforest, then climbing up through alpine ash and eucalyptus forest, and out into snow gums against open plains.

After the long drive on Friday is a short 6-10km walk  to gain half the elevation, then push as far as the snow/weather conditions allow on Saturday (up to 20km). Sunday retraces the route back to the car for a late return back to Melbourne.

Along rolling hills in constant tree cover the trip is solidly bushwalking with no mountaineering, but snowshoes will be needed for possibly the majority of the distance. Although the altitude gain is spread out and gradual the back country snow will be tough going, with heavy packs. Not all the required snow clothing can be borrowed from the club so participants will need to have the majority of their own equipment (snowshoes can be borrowed).
