Already enjoy standing on top of big hills? Want to figure out if you may also enjoy standing on top of big hills? This is the trip for you!
This trip will be taking place on Taungurung country in the Victorian alpine region. We'll check out Mount Buller, Little Buller, Corn Hill, Mount Stirling and the Monument and will camp at Bluff Spur Memorial Hut overnight.
Unfortunately, being on top of hills necessitates walking up them, so participants should expect big days with quite large elevation gain. Thankfully, we'll be earning our views amongst gorgeous alpine country with plentiful snowgums.
Please note that this trip falls in Winter and this is an alpine region. It is likely that there will be snowfall, rain and cold temperatures.
The trip has been graded as intermediate based on assumed alpine camping and bushwalking experience. Otherwise it is advanced.
Trip Plan:
Saturday (17km, 6-8 hours walking)
-Meet at clubrooms 6:30am
-Drive to Mt Buller Village (3-4 hours)
-Walk the Mt Buller and Little Buller loop with daypacks (9km, 3-4 hours)
-Switch to overnight packs back at Mt Buller Village
-Walk from Mt Buller Village to Bluff Spur Hut via Corn Hill (8km, 3-4 hours)
-Set up camp and socialise at Bluff Spur Memorial Hut
Sunday (15km, 5-7 hours walking)
-Return walk to Craig's Hut via Mt Stirling and the Monument with daypacks (6km, 2-3 hours)
-Walk out to Mt Buller Village via same route
-Drive back to clubrooms, approximate return time of 6-8pm (3-4 hours)
High quality rain gear, warm clothing and a Winter capable sleeping bag and mat are essential and pre-requisites to joining this trip. (Most of this can be hired from the clubrooms for the trip!)
