Let's go for a wander at Mt Dandenong! This is great opportunity to walk amongst some of the world's tallest trees and (hopefully) see the lyrebirds that hang out in Sherbrooke Forest. Only an hour from Melbourne CBD!

Going by train, we'll leave from Melbourne Central Station at 8.30am on Sunday morning. Arriving at Upper Ferntree Gully Station, we'll climb the Thousand Steps before having a break for a snack at One Tree Hill. Then we'll make our way to the beautiful Sherbrooke Forest, checking out its cascades and huge Mountain Ash trees. There's a good chance we'll see (or at least hear) lyrebirds, as the males are doing their courtship displays this time of year. We'll walk downhill through the forest to have lunch at Belgrave around 1.30pm. We will arrive back to Melbourne Central Station by 4pm at the latest.

The walk is around 10.5km in total. See map here: https://goo.gl/maps/No2j4aAQ1TFivfEN9

To join this hike, participants need to be fit enough to walk the distance including the ascent and descent of Mt Dandenong. The ascent up the Thousand Steps is quite a workout. There may be some muddy sections depending on recent weather conditions.  Please talk to me at the trip meeting if you're unsure about the level of fitness required or have any questions!

Hope you can come along!
