Exams are over so it's time for a nice long walk!

Mt Donna Buang is a beautiful rainforest-covered mountain in Warburton, around 2 hours from the city on public transport. Our walk starts at the Yarra River, which looks nice and clear up here, and ascends through lush forest. The ascent is steep and includes an elevation gain of 1km. The total distance of the walk is around 20km.

See a thorough description hereAnd check out the elevation profile here.

Here's the plan:

7:55am: Meet outside Melbourne Central Station for 8:13 train

10:15am:  Arrive at Warburton to start the walk

~1pm: Arrive to summit and have lunch, then descend by the same path.

Public transport back to Melbourne runs hourly, so depending on how long we take we'll likely be back at Flinders St at 5:30 or 6:30pm.

This is a demanding walk and so participants must have had similar experience in climbing mountains of a similar elevation and over a similar distance. People use this mountain as practice for climbing Kilimanjaro or the Kokoda Track, it's that steep. The track is narrow and can be muddy.

What you'll have to bring on the day:

- comfortable backpack, comfortable hiking clothes (possibility for leeches so long pants are a good idea), hiking shoes, at least 2L water, snacks and lunch, a warm jumper for when we're seated having lunch (it's a bit colder at 1200m!). And your myki.

Attendance at this week's trip meeting (Tuesday 21 Nov) is compulsory for all participants. You can let me know there if you have any questions.

Hope to see you then!
