Winter Wilsons and Whales (Hopefully)

Hi everyone,

Would you like to explore more of Wilsons Prom? Together with my colleague Lindsay I am organising a trip along the south-east coast via the lighthouse to Little Waterloo Bay. We will clock up almost 40kms over the weekend and be hiking during whale migration season, so there is a small chance we may see some whales.

Friday 11th

Meet at the Clubrooms at approximately 17:00 and drive to Telegraph Saddle Car Park. We can have dinner somewhere along the way in Korumburra or Leongatha. By the time we start hiking it will be dark, so please only join if you feel comfortable with this, and you have a reliable head torch. We will hike 12 kms, 4 hours to Roaring Meg and set up camp there.

Saturday 12th

Let’s get up as soon as the sun rises and make our way to Little Waterloo Bay via the Lighthouse, hiking 18.1 kms, 5.5 hours. The Lighthouse may be a great spot to stop for lunch and search for whales.

Sunday 13th

Hike back to the cars at Telegraph Saddle, 11. 9kms, 4 hours. We could think about stopping in Fish Creek for a pub lunch before heading back to the clubrooms.

If you’re comfortable hiking in the dark, walking almost 20 kms with a full pack and ready to brave any weather that Bass Strait throws at us, then join the fun! Transport costs and camping costs TBA. Because I will rely on another driver for the full 8-person trip to go ahead, I reserve the right to give preference to someone who commits to driving.
