The Mitta Mitta Gorge is one of Victoria’s premier whitewater runs – a scenic stretch of river with fun grade II–III rapids, calm pools, and stunning bush surrounds.

Friends of the Mitta is a volunteer organization dedicated to looking after the Mitta Mitta River and its surrounding environment. Each year they host a weekend that combines hands-on conservation work, community, and a paddle down one of Victoria’s most beautiful rivers. Expect a weekend full of nature, community and adrenaline - get keen!

This trip is perfect for first timers! If you can swim 50 meters, and aren't completely terrified of whitewater, you're good to go! The trip is led by qualified raft guides, fellow students volunteering to gain more guiding experience.

Here's the Plan:

Thursday night – Head up from Melbourne, camp by the river.

Friday - We will do our own day of paddling with friends from Interuni. Beginner friendly grade II rapids.

Saturday – Light volunteering in the morning (helping Friends of the Mitta with track/ramp work), then the afternoon is free for warm-up paddling or skills practice on the river.

Saturday night – Community dinner and social night with paddlers and locals.

Sunday – The big day on the gorge! Expect continuous grade II–III whitewater with plenty of fun rapids, surf waves, and recovery pools.

Gear to Bring:

Whitewater gear (wetsuit, helmet, PFD, paddle, spray deck, etc.) – Available for hire

Camping kit (tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat) - Available for hire

Wet Cloths - 2 sets of thermals (not cotton!!!), old joggers or booties that can get wet

Dry cloths - Rainjacket, warm cloths for camping at night

Food for breakfast/lunch/dinner
