Looking for a quick getaway from the city before you get into your mid-sem break uni work? Then this is trip for you. We will be leaving from the city early Friday morning and catching the V-line up to Violet Town, from there we will be cycling through the Strathboogies and onto the Great Victorian Rail Trail to Seymour from where we will catch the V-Line back to Melbourne.
The total distance is 135km with 1400m of elevation. We will split the riding over two days with the exact distances made after discussing with the group.
The route and some more information can be found here https://www.adventurecyclingvictoria.com/rides/violet-town-strathbogie-tallarook
Participant requirements:
This is an intermediate trip, meaning participants will need to:
- Have gone on at least one bikepacking trip before and be comfortable riding/climbing on a loaded bike.
- Be able to pack all their overnight gear, food (including one breakfast, one lunch, and one dinner at the very least), wet weather gear, CHARGED LIGHTS, layers, snacks, and some tools to fix their bike, including a flat repair kit (and knowledge on how to use it) and an allen key set.
- Be able to ride for up to 6 hours on a loaded bike on relatively hilly terrain.
- Be able to manage food and water intake, as snacking regularly on the bike is highly important for longer trips. NOTE: this also means that it's recommended to be able to snack on the bike whilst moving; ie, have snacks accessible.
- Have a bike suitable for rough gravel roads (at least 33mm tyres, but bigger is better).
