Hello Folks,
Do you like going up steep hills just for the sake of it? A bit of bush-bashing through completely overgrown areas? Steep slopes and exposed ledges?
If this sounds like your kind of fun, then keep reading!
The Eagle Peaks Circuit Hike is a challenging grade five hike, as far as the AWTGS is concerned. here are some stats:
Total distance: 26km
Climbing/descending: +/-1,752m
If you are coming on this trip you are expected to already be an experienced hiker who is self reliant and knows what your own body needs.
Gaiters, eye protection and being sensible is a must on this hike.
Day one:
- depart cars from sheepyard flat, walk to trailhead at lickhole creek (yes that is actually what it is called).
- take track to summit of mt Darling, the last time we encounter water will be at the base of this mntn, we will need to fill enough water for camp and the whole of the next day, bring 5 litres capacity, if you expect to use more, bring more.
- descend into lickhole gap, camp in the saddle.
note: the entirety between Mt Darling and Eagles peak is very overgrown, we may need to reassess camping location while out there.
Day two:
- Pack up camp
- Ascend Eagles peak, this is where it is steep, and rocky in places and you mustn't be afraid of heights or exposed ledges, near vertical in places.
- Descend west along the ridge, narrow and rocky, bits of track on the way back to Sheepyards (Dubons) flat.
- Ahh! yay its the cars and you can get away from these crazy and stinky people!
If you are feeling unwell at any point on this trip please notify the leaders immediately, that could be as 'little' as feeling cold. We will be in a remote area where issues can compound rapidly and weather can change even faster.
