Requirements: You will need a decent pair of shoes and a basic level of fitness. We will camp overnight, so you will either need to have your own camping gear or hire it out from the club.

Wilsons Promonatory is the most southern tip of mainland Australia and, in my mind, one of the most beautiful places I've encountered so far (have a look here for more info). The entire peninsula is a National Park and contains an incredible variety of natural habitats: grasslands, dry forests, temperate rainforests and beautiful long beaches. It is also home to an amazing number of animals. Where else does it happen that you sit next to your tent in the evening cooking dinner and when you reach out behind you to get the salt, you end up touching a wombat's nose instead (true story :-) ).

We will drive out on Friday night or Saturday morning (I'll leave this up to the majority to decide). On Saturday we will do an easy 5km walk from Lilly Pilly Gully to Squeaky Beach and Picnic Bay. There will be lots of opportunities to take in beautiful views and have a swim.

Sunday we will walk the Woodlands Track in the north of the Prom. 8km of grassland and forest walk with sightings of Emus a very good possibility.

Depending on cars, this trip is for a maximum of 15 people, though I might expand it, if there are more leaders coming along.

You don't need any prior hiking or camping experience, but you do need to be up for some easy walking and overnight camping (car-camping, no need to carry things far). So this trip is ideal for beginners, however more experienced people are very welcome as well.

Costs will be shared petrol, the camping fees (about $16 for two nights), and costs for food (which you will have to provide yourselves).

If you have any questions, come to the trip meeting and talk to me or send me an email (v-president [at] mumc.org.au).
