Howqua area walk

Hey guys i couldn't make it to the women's easter hike and got jealous, so we are doing the same thing!

Its a bit late notice but hopefully some people can still sign up, its advanced and need decent hiking fitness to get it done in appropriate time, there should be water up there though it sounds like. I don't have a car atm, so if the trip goes ahead will depend on who can sign up!

If you have a good 4wd you will get priority (also 2wd accessible!)

The hike is for people who are confident in hiking long distances with some exposure over steep elevations and independently camping in all weather conditions.

Itinerary:

Friday 3rd April – 10.5km, 1200m elevation gain/500m elevation loss

- Meet at MUMC clubrooms at 6.30am

- Depart from MUMC clubrooms by 7.00am to reach upper Howqua camping area by 12.30pm

- Walk up helicopter spur

- Take the Australian Alps Walking Track over Mt Magdala and Hells window

- Camp at Hellfire creek campsite

Saturday 4th April – 16.5 km, 1250m elevation gain/1400m elevation loss

- Continue on the Australian Alps Walking Track, passing Mt Howitt, the Crosscut Saw, Mt Buggery, and Mt Speculation

- Possible side trip to macalister Springs (2.5km)

- Return to Stanley Name Spur track

- Camp on Stanley Name Spur at the water point

Sunday 5th April – 10km, 200m elevation gain/700m elevation loss

- Return to Upper Howqua camping area, ETA 12.00pm

- Drive back to clubrooms, ETA 5.30pm.
