hi guys I'm running a trip to get ticked off as leader!
We will have an exhilarating night ascent of Mt Bogong, Victoria’s highest mountain (1986m).
Distance: 20.1km
Elevation: ±1483m
This is an advanced trip because you will expect:
cold, wind, and rapidly changing alpine weather
moving in darkness (headlamp navigation)
carrying your own gear (food, water, tent, warm layers)
questioning your life decisions (optional but likely)
Itinerary:
Friday
3:00 pm — Depart Clubrooms
~6:00 pm — Arrive at carpark
~6:30 pm — Walk along the road (6.2km, +387m)
~8:30 pm — Arrive at trail head, start ascent (3.3km, +634m)
~10:30 pm — Reach Mitchell Hut
Sleep / bivy
Saturday
~7 am Early summit push at sunrise (2.1km, +338m)
~8:30am Reach Mt Bogong summit

(Return timing flexible depending on group + conditions+side trips)
~12:00 pm Lunch at Bivouac Hut (3km, -497m)
~2:00pm arrive at cars (3.8km, -728m)
Drive back for an afternoon at the bright brewery/ early dinner at milawa?
~7:00 pm arrive back at clubrooms
This is an overnight trip so everyone will need their own sleeping and cooking setups. A good headlight is essential! Gear can be hired from the clubrooms on a Tuesday.
The supervising leader on the trip is John Pillans. If there’s any questions, feel free to email me!
