Last minute trip to Warrandyte for a beginner paddle down the Yarra. Weather looking cold but sunny, sign up if you're keen!
If you want to go on this trip, you must have attended one of the Intro to kayaking/pool sessions or have equivalent knowledge (how to perform a wet exit, basic paddlestrokes, assisted recoveries etc at minimum), and be able to swim at least 50m in strong currents. I will remove your name from the committed list if you haven't been to a pool session/don't have the experience.
The plan is to do a quick lap at Warrandyte on Sunday. We will head to Lower Homestead to put on the water and paddle downstream, before taking out at Wittons Reserve ramp.
Car pooling will be arranged by the trip leader, you will be notified of this a few days before the trip.
Please see a list of required gear below. Most of the paddling gear can be hired from the club - we'll be able to sort this out for you on the day.
Personal gear:
- Bathers/clothes to wear in the water (No cotton)
- Wetsuit/thermals if you feel the cold (wetsuit must be hired from the gear room beforehand if you want it)
- Wetsuit boots or old shoes to wear in the water - MUST be closed toed full coverage
- Dry change of clothes and towel for the end of the day, and a dry pair of shoes in case you use an old pair on the water.
- Water bottle
- Snacks (individually wrapped chocolate/snack bars are great!)
Paddling gear - can be collected from the clubrooms:
- pfd
- helmet
- cag
- paddle
- kayak
