Want to attend Midnight Ascent in August but haven't got the fitness? Want to go on multi-day hiking trips that look so fun but are labelled "advanced"?
Join us for the training hike #2 up Mt Juliet at Healesville!
This trip is aimed at beginner/intermediate hikers who want to unlock more of the club's bushwalking scene. This legendary track to the summit of Mount Juliet is a fierce physical challenge, with sections that are severely steep, but it's guaranteed you'll find it easier next time (we hope to run a few of these leading up to Midnight Ascent).
map: Mt Juliet Walking Track on AllTrails
Distance: 8.9km round trip | Elevation gain: 916m | Est. duration: 5–5.5 hours
Track conditions: Very muddy and overgrown, potentially scrambling on all fours on steep gradients up to 70 per cent.
Plan for the day:
7:55am — Meet outside clubrooms
Drive to Healesville
9:30am — Arrive, start the walk
~12pm — Summit, lunch, then descend the same path
Drive back
~4:30pm — Arrive back at clubrooms
What to bring:
Hiking boots or trail runners with good grip (no regular running shoes)
2L water
Lunch/snacks
gloves
Warm fleece/puffer + warm base layer
Rain jacket
Headtorch
hiking poles
spare change of clothes
The trip meeting on 4th of August is essential if you want to attend. Beginners/newcomers are prioritised, the group size is limited to 2 cars or 8 people max.
Transport is car-pooling — expect $15–20 for petrol per person. I'll carry a PLB and first aid kit. Questions →
Don't forget to check your ambulance insurance
Cheers,
Jason
