Day 1: 4.4km, 400m elevation      Day 2: 7.6km, 116m elevation

EDIT: unfortunately I didn’t realise that we have a finite number of snowshoes available, and we don’t have enough for two snowshoe trips this weekend. Apologies for that, I’ll look to run another trip at a later date!

With the snow finally rolling in, what better time is there to get out and do a bit of snow camping! The plan is to tackle the 12.3km summit loop at Mt Stirling, a relatively chill introduction to hiking in the snow but with some great views!

Here is the route that's planned, the distances are very relaxed but it makes it a great opportunity for bushwalkers to get some experience with snowshoes and setting up camp in the winter. Look forward to beautiful sunsets, cold nights and warm drinks!

Stirling is relatively sheltered for camping at Bluff Spur Hut, however winter in the alpine region needs to be taken seriously. Participants must have experience overnight hiking with a pack to join the trip. Additionally, a sleeping bag rated at a minimum of -5c comfort and an appropriate 4 season tent is required (available to hire from the club). Snowshoes can be hired from the club on the Tuesday meeting. This trip is weather dependent and will be cancelled if the forecast isn't suitable.

Currently the trip limit is at 4, however if we have extra cars and a second leader this may be extended to 8. Expected costs for the trip are roughly $75 for car costs (fuel, running costs, resort entry + overnight parking) and $17.5 camping cost per tent (tent sharing will save money) + gear hire.
