Leaders:
Zabrina S, Nikita B, Jason J
Standard: Beginner
Meeting: Tue, 1 Sep 2026, 7:00 pm
NOTE: Please come to the meeting on Tuesday the 1st of September if you want to come on this walk. We will organise drivers there. The number of people who can come will be dependent on the number of cars/drivers. This trip is weather-dependent. The trip is marked as beginner because it is a day trip, but you must be uninjured and very confident that you can walk 20km in steep, loose and possibly overgrown terrain.
If you like a gorge, this ones for you! Rugged river valleys, open eucalypt forests, and sweeping water views define this demanding 19km circuit through Plenty Gorge Park. Originally designed as a technical mountain biking route, this multi-use trail is a favourite among hikers seeking a solid fitness challenge.
The track features a rolling profile packed with sharp climbs, steep declines, and loose rock scree, making trekking poles highly recommended. The circuit also includes several river and creek crossings that can become deep after rain, so be prepared for wet feet. The physical effort is rewarded with peaceful riverside stretches, awesome canyon vistas, and regular encounters with large mobs of eastern grey kangaroos. Be aware there could be mountain bikers and snakes on the track.
Public toilets are only at the start of the trail. I can't see if there is confirmed drinking water at the start, meaning you must pack all your own water and supplies for the journey.
Plenty gorge is 40 mins out from the Melbourne cbd and we will be driving there for the day. We will meet at the clubrooms at 6:50am on Sunday the 6th of September, to leave at 7am sharp. If you are late (past 7am) we will leave without you. We don't have an approximate finish time, because it's so variable based on track conditions and the group, but we should get back to the clubrooms in the late afternoon.
You must bring:
- A Daypack (something to hold your stuff)
- Lunch and Snacks (eat breakfast beforehand)
- At least 1.5L of water (I will be bringing closer to 3L)
- A rain jacket (TBC)
- A jumper/something to keep you warm
If you show up without the above items, you will not be coming on the trip, you not bringing these items can affect everyone else in the group.
Items that we recommend you bring:
- Gaiters or Long Pants (TBC)
- Hat
- Sunscreen (depending on the weather)
- Spare shoes and socks (leave in the car - for wet feet)
Items leaders will bring:
- First aid kit
- GPS of the track
- Snake bandages
- Plastic bag for wet shoes in cars :)
The track map can be found on All Trails here: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/australia/victoria/plenty-gorge-medium-loop
If you want the map GPX for your watch please email me. The leaders will have the GPX and be navigating, the group will stay together so you don't need your own map.
Please email me at if you have any questions!
