Hi guys!
This is the Nigel Aylott 24hr Victorian Rogaining Championships. The championship rogaine is accompanied by roving 15hr and 6hr events, held in the Tallarook State Forest (50 years after the first ever rogaine that was held in the Tallarook State Forest in 1976!).
Friday 25 September 2026 is the AFL Grand Final public holiday and the start of the long weekend. The rogaine will begin on Friday enabling all 6hr teams and Roving 15hr teams to be heading back before the Grand Final starts.
For a 24hr rogaine there is no expectation teams compete all night. There is area to camp near the Hash House.
There is a VRA-organised bus + train combo depending on demand. Please contact by the 9th of Sept. if your team is interested.
Please note: the meeting for this trip is 2 weeks before the event. Please try and have an idea of what event you want to enter before the trip meeting! This makes organising teams and cars far easier.
Gear can be hired from the club, including gear for the rogaine itself and gear for camping. If you have team members in mind or are looking for people to team up with, come along to the meeting where we will be organising teams of 2 to 5 people. Everyone is welcome to join, whether it is your first time or your 100th!
The rogaine is organised by the Victorian Rogaining Association, more info about the event can be found here (including an explanation of the roving 15hr event): https://rogainevic.org.au/50th-anniversary-6hr-roving-15hr-and-24hr-rogaine-25-september-2026/
We also have a chat on the Oxo Clubrooms just for rogaining, so you can always put any questions you have in there if you can’t find the information on the VRA page! Please also consider volunteering. It helps out the VRA who are volunteers just like us and you get free entry into a future rogaine of your choice.
What is Rogaining?
Rogaining is the sport of distance cross-country navigation in which teams of two to five members visit as many checkpoints as possible in the specified time. It’s kind of a mix between trail running/hiking and orienteering (sort of like a scavenger hunt in the bush!). At our meeting I will explain the rules in more detail, and if you want to read more, see here: https://rogainevic.org.au/about/
